The IBM Personal Computer model 5150, commonly known as the IBM PC, is the original version and progenitor of the IBM PC compatible hardware platform.  It was created by a team of engineers and designers under the direction of Don Estridge of the IBM Entry Systems Division in Boca Raton, Florida.

== Specification ==

All models featured:

*[[Intel 8088]] CPU at 4.77MHz
*Socket for [[Intel 8087]] [[Math Coprocessor]]
*[[IBM Personal Computer System Board]] with 5 ISA slots
*[[IBM Model 5150 PSU|63W PSU]]
*Parallel and serial ports
*Cassette deck port
*ROM BASIC and free ROM socket for custom ROM
*[[IBM Personal Computer System Case|Substantial case]] with two full-hieght 5¼" drive bays

A choice of either [[IBM Colour Graphics Adapter|Colour Graphics]] or [[IBM Monochrome Display Adapter|Monochrome]] display adapters were available, the former with a composite output for connection to an ordinary TV.

The vast majority of models shipped had at least one floppy drive, for which IBM used three models:
