The ST11M and ST11R were 8-bit ST412 interface controllers "designed for use in PC XT AT systems with DOS-based applications".
- The ST11M was designed for use with drives employing MFM data encoding.
- The ST11R was designed for drives using RLL (2,7) data encoding.
- According to Seagate, the ST11M/ST11R controllers had a unique recording format and therefore required all attached drives to be installed by one of the processes described in their guide before operation (usually the card BIOS low-level format routine, involved via DEBUG).
