The Amstrad 2000 Series of PCs, launched in 1989, consisted of:
- PC2086, XT-class 8086, 640KB RAM, VGA graphics
- PC2286, AT-class 80286, 1MB RAM, VGA graphics, 40MB Hard Drive
- PC2386, 80386DX, 4MB RAM, VGA graphics, 65MB Hard Drive
The systems were designed with an on-board disk controller, but shipped with Western Digital 1006 RLL Controllers due to problems with the onboard design which were later proved (in Court) to be due to errors by Seagate.
One of the few patents IBM held on the original PC was on the keyboard interface. Amstrad, unlike many other clone manufacturers, respected this patent and hence the systems shipped with a proprietry keyboard interface.
